SMEA15069U Surgical summer course: Introduction to surgery with simulated team-training and clinical experiences
Master of Science in Medicine
The aim of the summer school is to provide a systematic and comprehensive overview of the most common procedures and techniques within surgical specialties.
The summer school: The participants are enrolled in a day of full-scale simulation (team-based training). They also have the opportunity to participate in surgical self-training on virtual reality simulators and black boxes at the Simulation Center in the afternoon. For three days, the students have the opportunity to observe clinical care at the hospital. They are paired with and shadow a doctor during their time in the clinics, with a focus on the examination and treatment of surgical patients, as well as time in the operating room. During this shadowing experience at the hospital, the students participate in daily conferences and discussions. The summer course offers different surgical sub-specialties: urology, cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, abdominal/general surgery, and thoracic surgery.
An emphasis is placed on student participation and dialogue, including different innovative educational methods intended to optimize learning outcomes and to prepare the student for life as a junior doctor.
