Learning Outcome
General course objectives:
- To enable the students to critically review scientific papers in this field
- To enable the students to define, understand and use epidemiological terms and concepts
- To enable the students to evaluate the methods used
- To enable the students to engage in scientific discussions
- To enable the students plan for the analysis and presentation of own data
Learning objectives: A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
- Plan the analysis and presentation of data from a study on undernutrition, taking into consideration bias, confounding, mediation, effect modification, power, multiplicity, loss to follow-up, etc.
- Critically review a scientific paper and evaluate strength and weaknesses, in relation to study design, validity, such as bias and confounding, and generalizability
- Discuss the importance of research for public health and clinical practice
Teaching and learning methods
Lectures, exercises in
group, journal club in pairs, discussion in plenum, use of
internet-based clickers Examples, papers and student projects will
all be focused on nutrition.
