NKEB14016U Introduction to Environmental Chemistry
The goal of the course is to introduce environmental chemistry including the earth, the dynamics of the environment, the spheres (lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biota), chemistry of the atmosphere, biogeochemical cycles of the elements, industrial processes, energy and climate.
Knowledge:
understand the biogeochemical cycles of the elements
understand important components of the chemistry of the atmosphere, hydropshere, lithosphere and soil
understand the effects of important industrial processes on the environment and the underlying chemistry
Skills:
the ability to analyze the chemical reactions that anthropogenic compounds undergo in the atmosphere, hydrosphere and pedosphere
Competences:
to provide a chemical and physical description of the fundamental natural properties of the environment
to analyse chemical reactions that chemicals produced by humans undergo in nature.

- Oral examination, 30 minutesIndividual oral exam after approval of five out of seven assignments. Maximum 2 minutes preparation time and ca. 25 minutes oral exam.

The students shall demonstrate how well they have fulfilled the goals of the course.
