Content
- The course has emphasis on application of geophysical methods to provide information about Earth structure and processes that determine the tectonic and plate tectonic evolution.
- Reading and presenting in talks and writing the content of scientific literature.
- Project work on integrated geophysical interpretation of the lithospheric structure in regional context
- The teaching is held as seminars with substantial dialogue between the lecturer and students, and a project exercise where geophysical concepts are applied
Learning Outcome
Knowledge:
- Application of geophysical methods to provide understanding of tectonic and plate tectonic processes
- Importance of integrated interpretation
- Relation between structure and composition of the Earth at all scales and the physical processes in the Earth’s interior
Skills:
- Understanding the current use of geophysical methods for studying the Earth.
- Selection of suitable methods for a specific geological - geophysical task
- Knowledge of the importance of uncertainties in data and models
- Document models in written and oral presentation
Competences:
- Have overview of the suitability of geophysical methods;
- Be able to select the appropriate physical parameters for solving specific tasks
- Understand the importance of noise and uncertainty of geophysical interpretations
- Be able to apply specific geophysical methods at professional level
- Be able to interpret regional and local geological processes through interpretation of geophysical data;
- Communicate results by written and oral presentation.

Recommended Academic Qualifications
BSc in Geology-Geoscience
or equivalent is recommended. In order to participate, students are
strongly recommended to have a knowledge corresponding to that
obtained in Solid Earth Geophysics (part 1).
