With reference to the university programme order’s §16 and §22, the university is able to determine in both the bachelor and master programme’s curriculum, that the education, within the prescribed period of study, includes academic internships possibly affiliated in areas outside of the university in Denmark or in foreign countries.

An academic internship gives the student opportunity to take a practical approach to a legal problem as a baseline. The internship will end with a project-exam. The project is a written assignment.

As foundation of an academic internship at the Master’s programme of Law, the student shall therefore frame a problem-based project, which is approved by an academic supervisor from the university. Furthermore a key person at the workplace where the internship takes place, who holds expert knowledge regarding the project and will shall also be appointed as a co-supervisor.

The academic internship will give the student an opportunity for collection and testing parts of the material, which are included in the written project. At the same time, the student will offer qualified knowledge at the location of the internship.

The written project must be related to the practical problems, which the project is based on, and to the relevant jurisprudential or other theoretical problems, which the project is concerned with.

Both elements must be specified in the project.

Learning outcomes

 In relation to knowledge, the student must be able to:

  • Explain the legal problems which are described in the project, and which the student has worked with during the internship.

 

In relation to accomplishments, the student must be able to:

  • Analyse the legal problems which are expressed in the approved project.
  • Independently find relevant legal and non-legal literature together with a systematization of them and provide an overview of the literature.
  • Reflect upon the legal and practical (and perhaps political) challenges, results of the legal analysis, together with the practical record from the internship.
  • Give arguments in favour of or against different solutions of the legal problem together with documenting the different approaches and potential opposites from opposing judgments as an example, or a non-tested problem.
  • Make sure a consistency between the project’s problem statement, limitation, outline, analysis and conclusion is clear, so the paper will appear logical in light of the problem statement.


 

Competence

In relation to competence, the student must be able to:

  • Independently work out and limit a legal problem statement, which should provide grounding for the preparation of the written project.
  • Make decisions concerning and reflect upon which methodical approaches that can and should provide grounding for the analysis and furthermore argue for the choice made in the paper.
  • Independently make decisions concerning and frame which practical and political reflections and interpretations the conclusions give rise to.
