HPOB00711U Portuguese - Introduction to the Portuguese-speaking world
Countries in which Portuguese is an official language (or the official language) are found in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. When we factor in migration, we see that Portuguese-speaking communities are found the world over. Using a variety of approaches introduced in the Introduction to Area Studies course, we will examine the Portuguese-speaking world in its historical, sociological and political and economic context.
Throughout the BA program problem-based learning in a team-project format will be used. This course offers the fundamentals for working in this manner.
This course will be taught in close collaboration with the Introduction to Area Studies course so that the concepts and theories presented have an immediate application and to solidify both the theoretical and the applied knowledge about the Portuguese-speaking world.
