Volume 2014/2015
Content
‘Area Studies’ is the
term used to describe the multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary
study of a specific geographical, linguistic or cultural area of
the world. This introductory course provides basic analytical tools
(concepts, theories and methods) from history, sociology,
anthropology, politics and economics so as to view how different
disciplines view and study the world. Students will learn how to
organize and work with different types of data and to present their
findings in appropriate academic form, oral and written.
This course will be taught in close collaboration with the Introduction to the Portuguese-speaking world so that new knowledge can immediately be applied to real-world contexts.
