Curriculum for Master's program in Islamic Studies, 2008
The course “Islam in the 20th and the 21st centuries” shall focus on the “Geography of Islam” and how this geography has been mapped out in the last two centuries. Four groups will be the subject of a series of lectures and class discussion.
- Arab Islam
- African Islam
- Western Islam (including the movement of the Nation of Islam)
- East Asian Islam
Within the “geography of Islam” the course will deal with issues such as: Orthodoxy, ethnicity, secularism, fundamentalism, and critical thinking.
