Content

“Sexual Politics in 20th Century Britain” is canceled and will be replaced by “From Custer’s Last Stand to Last Superpower Standing: U.S. 1877-1991”:

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the transformation of the U.S nation from the late nineteenth century to the end of the Cold War. Unfinished and barely united after the Civil War, the U.S. had become a “hyperpower” by 1991 – or so commentators claimed. Political, economic, social, and cultural viewpoints will be covered, using an interrogative and explanatory method towards primary sources and secondary explanations. As such the course will combine thematic and contextual approaches. This method will allow us to contemplate critically how and by whom history is studied and constructed. This course is especially aimed at students who have an avid interest in American studies and American history in particular.

-In-depth general history text for background (TBA)

-Sources and essay readings covering the major themes of the course (TBA)
