This course introduces and discusses postcolonial literature, theory and on-going debates within the field. We will read a selection of texts from geographical locations such as the Caribbean, Africa, and India. These texts will be explored using the critical toolkit that the course provides. The critical theory that the course elaborates on can be used to discuss both cultural products and societal problems, both in the past and the present. Topics that will be explored include discourse and representation, history and the nation, feminism and racism, migration and diaspora, ethics and responsibility, identity and hybridity.
