The seminar is primarily for students at the MSc of
Economics
Enabling the student to:
- understand the theoretical backgrounds for the various health economic disciplines,
- read and make use of scientific articles, where advanced health economy is applied,
- see health economic challenges in an international perspective.
The main focus is the financing and structure of the medical sector, the primary and the secondary health care sector. This includes theory and practice relating to both the demand- and supply-side, and problems related to decision making based on local budgeting.

Primary sector e.g.:
Should user fees be implemented for services that are currently free of charge in General Practice?
Secondary sector e.g.:
Analysis of the financing and incitement structure in the Danish health care sector.
Alternative financing methods of the health care systems, e.g. use of Medical Savings Accounts.
Medical sector e.g.:
Reimbursement and pricing of pharmaceuticals in Denmark. Decision-makers and influencers.
Health Technology Assessment and its use in reimbursement decisions.
Trade channels for market entry.
Reimbursement systems.
Pricing structure, trends and development.
The cost structure of research-based pharmaceuticals and reasons for price regulation.
Types of price regulation and their consequences.

Introductions and presentation of participant. Presentation of idea catalogue to thesis subjects by lecturer. Participants presentation of project titles and ideas. Discussions and feed back. Lectures with slideshow about the topic. Handing in commitment paper. Presentation and critical evaluation of papers. Opponents: All students! Each student will be moderating the evaluation of a fellow students paper. Handing in final seminar paper. Lecturer will be supervising on the seminar papers during classes.

February 24: Participants presentation of project titles and ideas. Discussions and feedback
March 2: Presentation of the financing of and incitement structure in the Danish health care sector. Presentation of alternative financing methods of the health care system. Writing process initiated.
March 9: Reimbursement, pricing and HTA. Questions and supervision of students.
March 30: Presentation and critical evaluation of student 1+2
April 6: Presentation and critical evaluation of student 3+4
April 13: Presentation and critical evaluation of student 5+6
April 20: Presentation and critical evaluation of student 7+8
April 27: Presentation and critical evaluation of student 9+10
May 11: Presentation and critical evaluation of student 11+12

- Re-exam
Submission of a written assignmetn and an oral exam in which you may be examined in the presentations of the other students participating in the seminar during the enrolment period in question.
Criteria for exam assesment
The student must in a satisfactory way demonstrate that he/she has mastered the learning outcome of the course.
