APSK15120U Work and Organizational Psychology - Practical training
The practice class will explain, introduce and provide opportunities for reflection on various work and organisational psychological methods, theories and tools used in practice. The students will work in a practice-oriented way to develop, implement and analyse intervention programmes based on work and organisational psychological theories and forms of intervention. They will reflect upon the role of psychologists in these interventions as well as on ethical issues associated with interventions. Specifically, this course centers around talent management, with a particular focus on talent management intervention. Organizations have begun to place greater emphasis on talent management that covers the topic area on recruiting and selecting, developing and retaining talents. After giving an overview of talent management in organisations, it will provide students with opportunities to develop, implement, experience, and evaluate talent management interventions. Students will develop talent management interventions in teams, involve their peer students in parts of the intervention in class, and receive feedback on their interventions from their peers. In addition, students will discuss the general potential and drawbacks of talent management in organizations, addressing issues such as how to define talents, and consequences of (not) being identified as a talent, fairness and diversity in talent management.
The students will form teams to
- Develop a talent management intervention including intervention materials
- Present the overall intervention and involve their peer students in parts of the intervention
- Analyse and provide feedback on the intervention from their peer students
At the end of the practice classes, the student can:
- Knowledge:
- Explain selected work and organisational psychological issues related to selected practice material, e.g. a case.
- Skills:
- Apply selected theory and empirical evidence to demonstrate the application of intervention programmes, forms of intervention, assessment and evaluation methods.
- Competencies:
- Frequently analyse and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of intervention programmes, interventions, screening and evaluation methods.
Critically reflect on the scope and limitations of selected interventions.

- Final written assignment reflecting on an issue relevant to the practice team drawing from the literature. A minimum of 75% attendance is a prerequisite for submitting assignments.
- Exam registration requirements
This course requires attendance at at least 75% of the class sessions and active participation in class.
- Teaching will be based on 100% attendance.
- The active participation involves team work to design an intervention and present this intervention in class, as well as analysing and providing feedback to peer students´ interventions individually.
