Advanced cognitive psychology focuses on advanced theories and methods within important areas of cognitive psychology, e.g., perception, attention, decision making, problem solving, cognitive development and social cognition. The course will give the students insights into the most recent research in cognitive psychology. The emphasis will be on research methods based on experimental cognitive psychology and neuroscience as well as advanced statistical analyses and experimental data.

Learning Outcome

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • account for theories in advanced cognitive psychology.
  • account for methods in advanced cognitive psychology and analyses of experimental data.

  • discuss experiments in cognitive psychology in light of theories and methods.
  • interpret empirical data and results in cognitive psychology in light of theories and methods.
  • integrate methodologies and theories from several scientific disciplines in the study of behavior.

 

Compentencies

  • discuss and evaluate advanced experimental and statistical methods in scientific articles with aim of critically assessing hypotheses, experimental designs, methods of analysis, and results.

Oral exam with preparation.

At the exam, the student draws 1 question in the form of an article from the syllabus list. Group regulations: The exam can only be taken as an individual exam. Extent: The exam time is 30 minutes including 10 minutes of voting and feedback. The examinee prepares for 15 minutes before the exam.

To qualify for the exam the student must have approved participation in 75 % of the classes
