Content

An introduction to the Danish natural terrestrial habitats and their ecological preconditions. Methods to study different groups of organisms, with major focus on plants, but also fungi, insects etc. Description of vegetation and how it is influenced by ecological factors incl. soil conditions.

Learning Outcome

To give students an overview of Danish terrestrial habitats, their ecology and their organisms (plants, animals and fungi). Field-based description and characterization of habitats using essential ecological parameters and appropriate groups of organisms.

After the course the student can:

Knowledge:

  • define the most important Danish natural terrestrial habitats, and account for their history
  • recognize the most important Danish habitat types by their organism composition (plants, animals and fungi)


Skills:

  • identify which taxa are relevant to characterize a particular habitat
  • identify and apply relevant identification literature for relevant groups of organisms


Competences:

  • communicate basic functional/ecological aspects of the main Danish natural habitats
  • perform a habitat analysis

It is an advantage to have followed the course "Organismernes diversitet" or equivalent.
Lectures, discussion and project work hours for 7 weeks. Independent project work make up about 50% of the course.

Written examination, 1 hour under invigilation
Oral examination, 20 minutes, no preparation time
Type of assessment details
Continuous assessment based on presentation of specific habitats on the field course (weights 20%). Oral examination based on delivered report of project work in the Copenhagen area (weights 40%). Written examination, 1 hour (weights 40%) (held as part of the course).
All part-examinations must be passed separately, but not necessarily in the same exam period.

Written examination 1 hour. No aids allowed.

If the requirement of participation in the field course is not fulfilled, the student must take the course again the next year.

Criteria for exam assesment

In order to obtain the grade 12 the student must convincingly and accurately demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences described under Learning Outcome.
