The course provides an introduction to the demotic script and grammar followed by text reading, first in standardized writing and then original scripts based on photographs.

Students must already have a good knowledge of Middle Egyptian grammar and text-reading experience at a level corresponding to a BA degree. It is an advantage also to have taken Late Egyptian.
Classroom lectures and seminars
Students are expected to have a basic reading knowledge of English, French and German.
