NIFK19004U Welfare Foodscapes (Offered for the last time in the academic year 2019-20)
MSc Programme in Integrated Food Studies.
This course is a project module, with two elements: First an introduction to problem-oriented project work in groups. Second a project-work in groups where students are asked to identify a project topic taking departure in the identified problems related to concrete welfare institutions.
The projects must be concentrated on topics in the semester theme of welfare foodscapes.
Students who pass the course will have qualifications as follows
Knowledge and understanding
- Should have knowledge of the problem based learning and group work process
- Get a basic understanding of the area of Integrated Food Studies
- Knowledge and comprehension of method which can be used to answer the formulated problem.
- Ability to describe and apply the theoretical approach used in the project
Skills
- Ability to use different mapping methods in welfare foodscapes.
- Ability to analyze empirical or theoretical cases based on the theoretical and methodological approaches presented in the semester.
- Should be able to perform a problem analysis and state a problem of an IFS relevant topic
Competences
- Ability to evolve different complexities food and meal topics
- Ability to reflect on the group process
- Ability to discuss the different science traditions related to a specific identified food oriented problem and the implications of different methodological approaches.
- Ability to reflect over the relevance of the chosen problem.

Following this introduction a project work in groups under supervision of a teacher will be carried out.

- Oral examination, 20 minutes per studentOral examination in groups on the basis of the written project report. No preparation.
In order to make an individual assessment, students are asked individual questions in addition to questions open to the entire group. - Exam registration requirements
A group report resulting from the project work must be submitted. This report is not included in the assessment.

Similar to ordinary exam. If the project report has not been handed in for the ordinary exam, a project report must be handed in two weeks prior to the re-exam.
