SCAM13022U Companion Animal Diagnostic Imaging - Ultrasonography
This course is a specialisation course at the Master of Companion Animal Clinical Science. The Master is a post graduate education targeted small animal veterinarians seeking Continual Professional Development (CPD).
To provide advanced level in techniques, practical skills and interpretation of ultrasonography. The course will be divided into two parts – one at a basic level introducing ultrasonographic examination including sonographic medical physics and an advanced part in which the participants should have acquired some routine in abdominal scans that can be further developed into an advanced level.
The course will contain didactic components concerned with
theory and practical exercises to develop and apply knowledge
within the area ultrasonography. Emphasis will be placed on
acquiring skills to obtain diagnostic quality images and on the
formulation of diagnosis based on imaging findings.

Having completed the course, the student must be able to:
Knowledge
• Define and demonstrate overview of the physical basis for
ultrasonography imaging.
• Define, explain and reflect about the systematic approach
used in the interpretation of images from this modality
• Explain the current importance of this modalities in
veterinary imaging
Skills
• Acquire standard ultrasound images from the (non-cardiac)
• Recognise, name and state common usage of selected
ultrasound imaging formats incl, B-mode, M-mode and various forms
of Doppler imaging.
• Make an imaging diagnosis from a wide range of common and
clearly manifest diseases
Competences
• Use their knowledge, skills to impact on the practice
of veterinary medicine in a clinical setting
Updated literature list will be posted 1 month prior to course start. The participant should have theoretical knowledge updated prior to participation.
SCAM13001U, SCAM13002U, SCAM13003U, SCAM13004U or one of the following certifications in Companion Animal Diseases:
• DVA in Small Animal Diseases, in Danish known as “certificeret fagdyrlæge i sygdomme hos hunde og katte”
• Swedish specialist in diseases of dogs and cats, in Swedish known as Steg 1
• Norwegian specialist in diseases of dogs and cats, in Norwegian known as Specialisering i veterinærmedisin, spesialitet smådyr
• Finnish specialist in diseases of dogs and cats, in Finnish known as Pieneläinsairauksien erikoiseläinlääkäri

- PortfolioAs part of the course the student will have to perform oral presentations and hand in a number of written exercises/cases and procedure protocols.

80 % active participation in the on site course activities are required in order to obtain approved course certificate. Both, approved course certificate and a passed examination are required to pass the course. Students may attend examination without approval of course certificate.
