HENB01393U English - Elective 2, topic 3: Governesses and the Gothic
Engelsk
This course will explore three novels and a short story all which may in their own way be seen in the context of governesses and the governess novel.
We will be discussing the representation of the ambiguous role of the governess as neither servant nor master, neither stranger nor family, and her uneasy position as observer and critic of established culture.
We will further be discussing the relationship between the Gothic and women’s education and self-governance.
