Content
This course is about objects in novels. In recent years, the study of literature has taken a 'material turn.' From colonial things, their networks and circulation, to commodity fetishes, personal relics and the consumer object, the course will explore the texts and stories we inscribe on things. We will read a range of Victorian novels, and theory by Marx, Appadurai and others. The course will give a practical introduction in how to read and apply theoretical ideas.
