Content

The course focuses on theories of welfare state development in a global context. Thus, it breaks with the traditional Eurocentricism and includes theoretical reflections and contributions from Asia, Latin America and Middle East and North Africa. The various welfare regimes across the globe are discussed with particular reference to class, gender, ethnicity and generation.

The aim of the course is to enable students to critically engage with welfare state theory from a sociological perspective

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

Students will acquire a thorough understanding of human welfare based on theoretical sociological insight.
 

Skills:

Students will be provided with analytical skills.
 

Competences:

Students will develop competences that will enable them to critically understand and analyse the social dynamics determining human welfare

Re-exam

At re-exam, the form of examination is the same as ordinary exam.
If the form of examination is ”active participation” the re-examination form is always “free written take-home essay
