Content

The aim of the course is to enable the students to critically evaluate the merits of the particular way welfare provisions and entitlements are organized in Scandinavia.

The course assesses to shich degree Scandinavian welfare states can still be characterized as women friendly and promoting equality within an environment of European Union and global challenges. Emphasis is on historical and contemporary developments

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

Students will be provided a thorough knowledge of the benefits and challenges of welfare provision in Scandinavia.

Skills:

Students will develop empirical analytical skills that enable them to critically assess the pros and cons of the particular welfare organization in Scandinavia.

Competences:

Students will acquire rigorous empirical insights that will lead to strong analytical competences viz-á-vis a particular geographical region in a sociological perspective.

Written assignment
Individual/group. Free written take-home essays are assignments for which students define and formulate a problem within the parameters of the course and based on an individual exam syllabus. The free written take-home essay must be no longer than 10 pages. For group assignments, an extra 5 pages is added per additional student. Exam registration requirements

Sociology students must be enrolled under MSc Curriculum 2015 to take this exam.

Credit students must be at master level.

Re-exam

At re-exam, the form of examination is the same as ordinary exam.
If the form of examination is ”active participation” the re-examination form is always “free written take-home essay
