Content

Site Specificity in the context of theatre and performance studies refers to an artistic approach that makes place a form of co-creator in works of performing arts. In this course we will depart from a look into the historical background of site specificity in a wider artistic context and move on to explore how the approach has been developed in theatre and performance. In focusing on the triadic relationship between place, artist(s) and audience/spectators/participants, the theoretical readings will be combined with practical tasks in order to anchor our conceptual understanding in an embodied manner. Adding to this we will look at a case material involving works that we attend together as well as performances accessed through documentation and/or secondary sources.
