This course will introduce the participants to how to read, understand and carry out systematic reviews and metaanalyses. The course will primarily focus on metaanalysis of observational and randomized quantitative studies, but the course will also cover qualitative and quantitative systematic reviews. The course contains hands-on training in the use of software for conducting systematic reviews.

Learning Outcome

After completing the course the student is expected to be able to

Knowledge

Describe and understand the components of systematic reviews and metaanalyses. Know the relevant guidelines for conducting systematic reviews and metaanalyses. Understand the arguments behind the guidelines used for systematic reviews and metaanalyses. Know the statistical methods of metananlyses and decision-making.

Skill

Be able to critically assess systematic reviews and metaanalyses.

Competence

Plan and carry out systematic reviews and metaanalyses of studies of various designs.

Basic knowlegde of epidemiology is needed.
The course will be a mix of lectures, exercises, and Work on a course paper.
