NBIK15018U Danish Natural Habitats, Ecology and Characterization
MSc Programme in Biology
An introduction to the Danish natural terrestrial habitats and their preconditions. Methods for describing groups of organisms (e.g. plants, fungi, beetles) and vegetation structure, deadwood and soil conditions as indicators.
To give students an overview of Danish terrestrial habitats, their ecology and their organisms (plants, animals, fungi). To practice description and characterization of locations using essential ecological parameters and appropriate groups of organisms.
After the course the student can:
Knowledge:
- define the most important Danish natural terrestrial habitats, and account for their history
- regognize the most important Danish habitats from their organism composition (plants, animals, fungi)
Skills:
- identify which taxa are relevant to characterize a particular habitat
