Curriculum for the Elective Studies in South East Asian studies The
2007 Curriculum
The course offers a sound introduction to the cultural, political and economic
landscape of past and present Southeast Asia, social modernization and
change. The goal of the course is to introduce you to the tapestry of cultural
diversity in Southeast Asia. We will study along Victor King’s “Sociology of
Southeast Asia”. The foundation will be laid for more advanced modules on
specific issues in subsequent years of study. Active class participation, oral
presentation and organization in small work groups is expected. The course
will also include the setup of a Southeast Asian film club and excursions to
Southeast Asian life in Copenhagen.
