Volume 2015/2016
Content
Chiesa e società nell’Italia contemporanea (Catholicism and society today)
The Catholic church has had a major influence on the development of Italian identity, culture, and society.
In this course we will focus on several areas where the church’s influence in society is particularly important, including the family, gender roles, bioethics, school and education, and immigration.
Subtopics will be examined on several levels, from the politics of the Vatican and of Italy, to quotidian life. In analyzing various sources and case studies we will shed light on contemporary issues from an historical perspective.
