SCAM13016U Veterinary Clinical Pathology - Test Validation/ Clinical Decision Making I
The purpose of this course is to emphasize the importance of
test validation in the diagnostic laboratory setting and to provide
the student with theoretical and practical knowledge of the
components of state-of-the-art veterinary diagnostic test
validation. To provide the students knowledge of communication
tools both in respect to fellow colleagues but also the clients met
in clinical practice. To develop the students ability to perform
written and oral presentations both in academic setting, in
relation to colleagues and clients. In theory and by practical
exercises to extend the participants knowledge, personal skills and
competences within the subject of presentation and communication.

Having completed the course, the student must be able to:
Knowledge
• Define, identify and discuss veterinary diagnostic
methodology and paraclinical tools in clinical decision making in
specialised companion animal clinical practice
• Explain, reflect about and demonstrate overview of the
systematic approach to test validation
• Explain, reflect about and demonstrate overview of the
systematic approach to evaluation of existing evidence of
diagnostic test performance in companion animal clinical practice.
• Explain and describe the theory of establishment and use of
population based reference intervals
• Explain and demonstrate overview of the theory of
establishment of clinical decision limits
Skills
• Design, Perform and report basic test validation (Analytical
and overlap performance testing)
• Use correct and appropriate terminology
• Perform oral presentations for both specialist and
non-specialist colleagues and clients
Competences
• Plan and evaluate test validation
• Collaborate and communicate within and between specialist
and non-specialist peers and lay persons involved in companion
animal patient management

- 80 % active participation in the on site course activities are required in order to obtain approved course certificate. Both, approved course certificate and a passed examination are required to pass the course. Students may attend examination without approval of course certificate.
