Volume 2014/2015
Content

The course aim to work intensively with different qualitative methodologies, and the reflections qualitative researchers go through when engaging in these methods. The content concerns four topics:

1. The process of interviewing: where participants will reflect on how different ways of interviewing produces different outcomes and are suitable to explore various research aims.

2. Using observations: where the task is to plan, carry out and reflect on different observation methods, from the participating observer to the observant observer. The participants will reflect on how different observation methods produce different data and are suitable to explore various research aims.

3. Ethnographic methods: here the participants will be presented with the method, and the knowledge potentials embedded within it. They will discuss what counts as data, how to construct a guideline for data-collection and how to report and present ethnographic data and discuss when ethnographical methods are suitable as a method.

4. Qualitative research criteria, ethic and positionality: When conducting qualitative research it is crucial to be familiar with the ethical guidelines that set the scene for the entire research process from contacting the participants conducting the research and analysing the data. The participants will work on their own research projects and discuss how to ensure keeping the ethical guidelines.
