NSCPHD1230 Annual PhD student conference at Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (generic course)
One of the key activities of the PLEN Research Programme is an
annual research conference, where all PhD students from the
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences are invited to
present their projects and the most exciting results of their work.
Participation in the course will increase networking among PhD
students and senior researchers at PLEN and include an active
case-based workshop for PhD students and supervisors focusing on
"The life after the PhD - career paths"
PhD students can give either a 10 min oral presentations OR present
a poster. The style of the presentations should aim at a
non-specialist scientific audience, emphasizing the general aspects
of on-going research.
The conference will offer a space for you as PhD students from
different subject areas at PLEN to meet and share ideas, practice
presenting in a supportive academic environment to a new audience.
Each participant will receive feedback from senior staff members
and students.
The course is a 1.5-day meeting (meals, accommodation and transport
to the meeting from Frederiksberg Campus included) and consists of
• oral presentations by PhD students in parallel sessions
• active case-based workshop
• a keynote talk
• poster session and oral presentations of selected posters
• conference dinner and team building
By participating PhD students will
• get the opportunity to present their work in a conference setting
and discuss their projects with other PLEN researchers
• practice to evaluate presentations and give constructive feedback
to peers
• receive written feedback on your presentation (talk or poster)
from peers and assessment panel and personal feedback after the
meeting
• have a chance of winning prizes for best poster and best oral
presentation
• have lots of opportunity to meet and network with other PLEN
researchers
• be eligible for 2 ECTS credits
The Research Program at PLEN aims at improving PhD education,
stimulating new research and increasing interactions within the
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at UCPH SCIENCE.
There will be ample opportunities for discussions and feed-back on
research issues and the PhD students should see the conference as a
good opportunity for training their presentation skills and
marketing scientific results.
The workshop on career paths will form the basis for renewed focus
on how to deal with the life after the PhD and as
inspiration.
Students will be an integral part in the evaluation of presentations which will further develop skills to evaluate and communicate scientific communication.
Student presentations
Workshop
During the conference, students will practice to evaluate presentations and give constructive feedback to peers and will receive written feedback on presentations (talk or poster) from peers and the assessment panel.
