Volume 2014/2015
Education
Relevant PhD
Content

  • The use of fluorescent reporters with filamentous fungi (fungal transformation and advanced microscope techniques)
  • Plant disease diagnostics based on symptoms, pathogen morphology, diagnostic keys and taxonomy
  • Molecular plant disease diagnostics
  • PCR characterization of microorganisms
  • Methods used for studying induced resistance
  • Real time PCR for studying Plant-microbe interactions
  • Gene knock-out in fungi and their effects on interactions with plants or other organisms
These techniques are taught in specific modules. Normally a student will chose one of these modules but may combine as appropriate.
Learning Outcome
The course gives a hands on introduction to new and advanced methods in plant pathology of direct relevance for the individual research project
Individual for specific modules
Enrolment in a PhD programme and acceptance in host laboratory
Apprenticeship in a research group literature discussion data analysis and interpretation
Course Work Load: The work load depends on the module size, for 6 ECTS it will approx 150 hrs but can be made larger as this is an ad hoc course
