NMAK14008U C*-algebras and dynamical systems (C*DynSys)

Volume 2014/2015
Education

Content

The course covers various aspects of the interplay between dynamical systems and operator algebras. The starting point for this interplay is two constructions associating C*-algebras to dynamics: crossed products and the Cuntz-Krieger algebras. The participants are not expected to have any prior experience with dynamical systems. Most emplasis will be on topological dynamics, but measure-theoretical dynamics will also be discussed, primarily in the context of ergodicity.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge
Properties of basic classes of dynamical systems, in particular shift spaces. The key constructions and their structure (ideals and K-theory)

Skills
Use functional calculus/spectral theory as well as completeness.

Competence
Extract information about dynamical systems from their operator algebras, and vice versa.

Introduction to operator algebras (IntroOpAlg).
