The seminar will primarily focus on experimental dramaturgies of contemporary performance theatre. We will look at theatre makers such as director: Robert Wilson, group theatre: Forced Entertainment, reality theatre: Rimini Protokoll, political theatre: Milo Rau (International Institute of Political Murder), and choreographer: Jérôme Bel. We will discuss topics such as theatricality, performativity, and subjectivity; as well as new formats like reality theatre, delegated performance, audio walk and lecture performance. Through watching different works and exploring shifting notions of theatre, we will address some of the crucial issues in contemporary performance theatre: the relation between text and performance, the relation between sight and sound, and the deconstruction of the autonomous character.
