HFIA03733U Modul 4: Philosophy of Psychology: Contemporary discussions
This course is an introduction to the main philosophical questions raised by cognitive science (the contemporary interdisciplinary scientific study of the mind, which covers disciplines such as psychology, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and linguistics). It does not require any prior familiarity with these disciplines, just a curiosity about how the mind works. We will discuss questions such as: What is the difference between personal level and sub-personal level explanations? What is computation? Are computers the best model for understanding the mind? What is cognitive architecture? Is the mind massively modular? How does action and perception relate? What is consciousness? The course will discuss ways in which philosophical assumptions shape the scientific study of the mind, as well as ways in which science influence philosophy.
