NSCPHD1235 Topological Insulators and superconductors
Volume 2013/2014
Education
Physics
Content
The course deals with the modern developments in the theory of materials with topological bandstructure, both insulators and superconductors. It is targeted to PhD students working in this and neighboring fields. It will cover simple aspects of topological invariants of Bloch bands, as well as more advanced topological field theory aspects of for example the quantum Hall effect.
Literature
Course material: the course is based on the recent book “Topological Insulators and topological superconductors” by B. Andrei Bernevig.
Teaching and learning methods
We meet 3 hours once a week
for 15 weeks. The students must have read and solved the problems
for each meeting. The teaching will done in by a “journal club”
format, where everybody is expected to contribute. The course is
passed by presence at least 90% of the time.
