It is a pleasure to announce the next course on Microsensor Analysis in the Environmental Sciences.

The course is given in even years and has been very popular since its start in 2000, attracting a large number of international applicants.

The course will introduce the participants to state-of-art microenvironmental analysis and to the application of electrochemical and optical microsensor techniques in the environmental sciences. The participants will get a broad overview of techniques and applications during 2-3 days of intensive lecturing by the organizers and invited lecturers, followed up by practical laboratory exercises and demonstrations of microsensor construction, test and calibration. The participants conduct an experimental project over 4-5 days under expert supervision. The course is evaluated via participant presentations and discussion of project results on the last full day of the course.

The participants will also be asked to present their own research via short presentations during the course. More information is available at:

Learning Outcome

A common positive remark in the course evaluation is the strong focus on giving the participants practical skills and hands-on experience with various microsensor methodology.
Especially, the opportunity to conduct an intensive experimental project over 4-5 days using modern microanalytical tools, in small groups with dedicated supervisors, is mentioned as unique for this PhD course.
In several cases, scientific publications have actually been based on studies/measurements initiated during the course project part and followed up by additional studies later on.

 

Literature
Teaching material will be forwarded to the participants 2-3 weeks before the course.
Applications should contain a brief CV and a short description of research interests and motivation for applying for the course.

The course fee is 750 EURO covering accommodation and full catering during the course.
Participants must cover their own travel expenses to/from the course.

Below under "Workload" the 92 hours of project work includes 2 hours of presentations by participants.
