NGEA09019U Geophysics - Global Seismology and Potential Fields (1)

Volume 2013/2014
Education
MSc Programme in Geology and Geoscience
Content

This 7,5 ECTS course is constituted by block 1 of the 15 ECTS course "Geophysics - Global Seismology and Potential Fields (1+2)"

Theoretical and practical aspects of seismology, including the application of controlled source and earthquake seismology to the determination of the material properties of the whole Earth; theory and application of the Earth's gravity and its significance for structure and dynamics; electromagnetic theory and the geomagnetic field, including application to geological studies ; geothermal and other types of observation; synthesis of the results from the various methods in terms of the distribution of properties such as density, elasticity, rheology, etc., of material within the Earth; geodynamic modelling of processes such as mantle convection and plate tectonics.
