HTEA03226U Teatervidenskab: Dramaturgy: Theories in Practice
Theatre and performance studies: Dramaturgy: Theories in Practice
The seminar in Dramaturgy will primarily focus on 20th and 21st century experimental dramaturgies of the avant-garde, performance and postdramatic theatre. We will look at playwrights and directors from Artaud and Gertrude Stein, Brecht and Beckett, to Robert Wilson, Sarah Kane and Rimini Protokoll. We will discuss topics such as theatricality, performance and performativity, and postdramatic theatre; as well as new formats like reality theatre, delegated performance, audio walk and lecture performance. Through reading plays and exploring shifting historical notions of theatre, we will address some of the crucial issues in modernist and post-modernist theatre: the relation between text and performance, the relation between sight and sound, the deconstruction of the autonomous character, etc.
