HMØA03542U Media in the Middle East - Israel
The course – Media in the Middle East and Israel – presents a
history of media and its various “genres” since its emergence to
the 21st century. Primary focus shall be on Israeli
written press, TV and social media. One of the course´s goals is to
“map” Israeli Media landscape and to compare it to other Middle
Eastern media on the one hand, and to other “Jewish” global Media
on the other.
Despite the decisive role that Hebrew plays in the national
identity, Israeli media is still multilingual. New phenomenon
is the emergence of Middle Eastern Media in non-Hebrew languages,
the latest of which is the Israeli “i24 News” in three languages:
Arabic, English and French.
The course will also provide students with theoretical tools
necessary in the field of Media Studies and social
sciences.
