The course is comprised of a series of  presentations and workshops which will prepare students to write a museum or gallery text (pamphlet, catalogue entry, essay, wall label, etc.), article or book review for an academic or a general audience, script for television or the internet, or flier for a book. Every week the students will be asked read at home one or more texts about specific paintings of women, primarily portraits and nudes, or about a particular female artist or patron or about female reception.  During each class there will be a lecture by the instructor, followed by a workshop/group work. The students will be divided into groups to compose a work (e.g., wall label, catalogue entry) about the assigned topic for a specific or general audience which they will present to the class on a different occasion.
