Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Theory and practical application of 3rd wave CBT v/Max Bøhling –                                      

Instructor
: Max Boehling licensed psychologist and PhD. Max is an international ACBS peer-reviewed ACT trainer. He conducts workshops for professionals in both clinical and work place settings, supervises psychologists and maintains a private practice (www.funktionelpsykologi.dk).

Course Description: The focus of the course is to provide a theoretical and experiential introduction to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and its associated theories; Relational Frame Theory (RFT) and Functional Contextualism (FC). ACT is part of the 3rd wave behavioural therapies. It is a transdiagnostic and evidence based approach to psychopathology and well-being.

Objective: The objective of the course is to enable students to understand and apply:
-          3rd wave cognitive behavioural therapy with a focus on ACT.
-          Functional Contextualism (FC)
-          Relational Frame Theory (RFT)
-          Psychopathology perspectives
-          Arguments in favour and against the therapy
-          Principles of experiential avoidance inside and outside the therapy room
-          Demonstrations of ACT techniques and relate them with relevant ACT core process
-          Contemporary research within the field

Content: Lectures, role-play, experiential learning and presentations.

Learning Outcome

The goal of elective courses is an expansion or an additional perspective upon the psychological field. This is achieved through theoretical or empirical engagement in themes within or related to the psychological science. Elective courses can be taken in the Department of Psychology or in other departments.

The students are expected to actively participate in class. 75% attendance is mandatory but the course is based on full participation. Class participation includes presentations and other experiential class assignments such as role play and demonstrations.
