MSc in Public Health Science - elective course
Open for students in the BSc in Public Health Science who has passed the courses 'Introduktion til epidemiologi' and 'Introduktion til statistik'
The course will provide students with insight into infectious disease epidemiology, with a strong focus on Denmark. In the course we will discuss:
- Frequency and association measures in infectious disease epidemiology
- Infectious diseases in Denmark
- Surveillance of infectious diseases in Denmark
- Infectious disease outbreaks in Denmark
- Statistical analysis of infectious disease data
- Vaccination schedules in Denmark
Besides, we will go on a site visit to Statens Serum Institut and learn about real life infectious disease epidemiological projects.
At the end of the course the student should:
Knowledge
- Have basic knowledge about frequent infectious diseases in Denmark
- Be familiar with epidemiologic concepts related to infectious diseases
Skills
- Be able to calculate relevant frequency and association measures
- Be familiar with pitfalls in statistical analysis of infectious disease data
- Be familiar with management of infectious disease outbreaks in Denmark
- Be familiar with the Danish vaccination program
- Be familiar with preparedness and infection control in Denmark
Competencies
- Contribute to handling of real-life infectious disease outbreaks
- Contribute to setting up infectious disease preparedness systems
