HLVB10303U Modern Nordic Arts and Culture 2: Modern Nordic Literature, Popular Culture, Theatre, Dance and Music
Volume 2017/2018
Education
BA Elective: Modern Nordic Arts and Culture
Content
The purpose of the course is to provide a survey of basic issues across the literature, the performing arts and more general popular culture in the Nordic countries since the late 19th century.
The lectures draw attention to a wide variety of methodologies including analytical case studies of specific works of art or other empirical materials as well as more theoretical discussions of arts and culture from different critical perspectives. Questioning the nature of what might be considered ’Nordic’, the lectures also highlight ’the nordic region’ as an imagined and temporary rather than a fixed and stable geographical space.
