This course aims to provide students with a nuanced and research based understanding of contemporary Chinese society, politics and political economy by exploring a range of social, political, and economic issues as they are addressed in English and Chinese texts. In addition, applied theories and methods will be discussed.
The lectures focus on presentation and discussion of the scholarly literature, while the text reading classes focus on the reading, translation and analysis of materials in Chinese. In addition, CBS students have two weekly lessons to train conversational skills in Chinese, and KU students have two weekly lessons on methodology in China studies.
