Sydasienstudier, 2012-ordningen
This course introduces some of the forms of social distinctions and inequalities in societies in South Asia. It examines the specific issues of caste, class, gender and kinship, and their complex entanglements with religion in urban and rural contexts. It draws on critical debates and ethnographies of the region, as well as films (including documentary footage) and fiction (e.g. Dalit stories). The course aims to illuminate the fluid and diverse formations that characterise the societies in this region, and the relations of power integral to them.
