English - Free Topic B: The Great War and the Beginnings of Modernism (KATV)

This course will explore multiple aspects of the relationship between literature and World War I, including contemporary and subsequent representations of the Great War in poetry, prose, drama and journalism as well as the role of the experience of war in shaping a particular British brand of modernism.

Undervisningsmateriale

Reading such diverse authors as Wilfred Owen, Edward Thomas, G. K. Chesterton, Rudyard Kipling, Virginia Woolf and others, we will be discussing, amongst other things, what budding literary developments the war may be seen to have marginalised or made redundant and what replaced them.
