Content
This course is designed to open the world of modern American writing to MA students through close-reading and in-depth analysis of a selection of contemporary novels and poetry supported by relevant theories. The shift from modern to postmodern writing will be a central feature here, the problematics of (American) canon formation will be discussed, and questions concerning cultural affiliation will be addressed. We will read texts by Frost, Williams, Faulkner, Hemingway, Ginsberg, Sukenick, Auster and others.
