TTEAKAKNTU KA Kernefag: Det Nye Testamentes Eksegese: Det Nye Testamente og Antik Jødedom ”the course will be taught in English”

The New Testament, a collection of Greek literary works, emerged within the context of the scriptures, lived experiences, and cultural milieu of the Jewish people. These individuals, both residing in the land they knew as Judaea and adherents of a system of practice and belief known as Judaism, produced a diverse array of literary works that endured into the modern era, significantly enriching our comprehension and appreciation of the New Testament canon.

This course will systematically examine a distinct New Testament passage each week, accompanied by an ancient Jewish comparand. The curriculum encompasses various reading methods employed in the Hebrew Bible, including Midrash and allegory; shared exegetical traditions; geographical names and onomastics; the portrayal of Jews and Jewish practices in the New Testament in contrast to Jewish sources; the concept of the end times; material realities; and the depiction of magic and the occult.

Furthermore, we will learn how to use various tools  for accessing relevant Jewish sources, identify potential methodological pitfalls, and trace the historical evolution of this comparative project, both in antiquity and the contemporary period.
