SHUA13023U Introduction to Molecular Bioscience
MSc Programme in Human Biology – elective.
Also available for other MSc and PhD students.
Interactive seminars and tutorials with leading scientists from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Center Cluster will introduce a range of current research in biomedicine and biotechnology: including cutting-edge cellular, molecular, and computational approaches to investigation of disease-related proteins and their function, stem cell biology; regulation of metabolism, and cell factory engineering. Participants will discuss important questions within these research areas with expert researchers during the seminars and tutorials, and will develop ideas for interdisciplinary research projects.
After completing the course the student is expected to:
Knowledge
- Describe the state-of-the-art for the following research areas:
- Protein research
- Stem cell biology
- Regulation of metabolism
- Bioengineering
Skills
- Discuss important questions within these research areas
- Develop ideas for collaborative projects within these research areas
- Review topics of interest within these research areas
Competencies
- Explain topics of interest within these research areas
- Evaluate ideas for research projects
Powerpoint presentations and/or recommended scientific literature will be provided during the course.
The course and assessment are entirely in English: students must be able to understand, speak, read and write scientific English at a high level.
