Public health research and practice are often centered around societal challenges that must be explored and tackled in close collaboration with a diverse range of external partners. In this course, you will gain insight into how to engage with and navigate in these partnerships, and what possibilities and challenges they may entail. Particular emphasis will be placed on the formulation of ideas, match-making, alignment of expectations, co-creation of knowledge and activities, and dissimination of results.
The course builds on a combination of lectures given by external partners and UCHP researchers, case-based exercises, student presentations, and readings and discussions of methodological and case-based texts. Site visits to selected partners are included.
On completion of the course, the students should be able to:

- Explain rationales for involving external partners in projects
- Critically discuss key opportunities and challenges in external partnerships
Skills
- Analyse the rationale for involving external partners in relation to concrete research and project aims
- Discuss and assess strategies for involvement of external partners
- Evaluate the degree of alignment between partners and discuss strategies for ensuring alignment over time
Competencies
- Independently plan strategies for engaging external partners
- Develop and present a project pitch for early phase engagement of external partners
