MSc programme in Mathematics

Content
  • Selected topics in Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics. Besides fundamental issues the course will focus on more specialized topics depending on the interests and preferences of the participants. Among these topics may be a selection from the following list: spectral theory for unbounded operators, the Schrödinger equation and Stone's theorem, perturbation theory, scattering theory, stability of matter; if time permits many-body systems or statistical mechanics.
Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

  • Basic concepts and methods used int the mathematical description of quantum systems and/or statistical mechanics.
  • Explicit mathematical models of concrete physical systems in quantum and/or statstical mechanics

Competencies

  • To formulate, understand, and analyze mathematical models of physical systems

Skills:

  • To use advanced mathematical tools to  extract relevant physical information from well-defined models
  • To do explicit calculations within the framework of advanced mathematical models
